Search Engine Submissions
In order for a site to show up in the organic or natural (non-CPC) listings, each page must be registered with each search engine, or its licensing partner. There are some exclusions to this rule, however, as some search engines may climb your site on its own, provided they are able to do so.
Google will allow you to submit your site for free to its search engine. However, we recommend letting Google index your site on its own. If Google gets stuck on various parts of your web site, it may be due to the number of variables or parameters in your URL. Google can typically handle two variables in a dynamic URL.
You can submit your site to Inktomi who licenses results to MSN using paid inclusion or trusted feed. For ecommerce sites, we recommend doing trusted feed for one month. It's typically .25 CPC, however, you may be able to negotiate a lower rate for one month. Take the higher performing URLs and switch them over to paid inclusion flat rate to save your company thousands of dollars.
Yahoo started its own paid inclusion program as of February 2004.
