Ever Been to The Grand Hotel in Mackinac Island, MI?
by Laura Thieme

I have heard about The Grand Hotel and Mackinac Island for years.  I know people that go there every year. Mackinac Island is one of the most famous American historic places to visit.  It’s perfect for romance, family, history, golf, and business.  I finally decided to go last year, around Labor Day for a weekend escape.  This year I’m returning but not just for fun and sun on Labor Day, but also for a hosted event at The Grand Hotel - it’s our Search N Spa.  This is our second Search N Spa event.  The first was a hit in Laguna Beach, CA this past June.

What is Search N Spa?

I developed an executive, exclusive seminar series called Search N Spa(tm) for business owners and high-level corporate marketing and management execs.  I wanted to spend mpre time with my clients in an exclusive environment.  My clients love the attention they get in a three and a half day event.  It’s extraordinarily productive because we are working on their organic, paid search and blog media strategy during the entire week’s events. We review their Google Analytics keyword referrals, bounce rates and conversion rates, and modify their campaign accordingly. Here’s the detailed agenda.

What Previous Attendees Had to Say:

Here’s what Beatrice, owner of Beezix Software, said about our June Laguna Beach Search N Spa:

Spending 3 days with Laura Thieme, having all my questions answered, and discovering such extremely useful reports available in Analytics was absolutely the best use of my time. Using my own web site data made it so much easier to make sense of and retain all the new information. The luxurious setting and yoga on the beach also contributed to the fine experience. Thank you for a fabulously interesting and useful weekend.

Beatrice sells those handy laminated quick reference cards for Windows, Mac and other computer software applications.

Why Mackinac Island & The Grand Hotel

I fell in love with Mackinac Island the second I arrived on the island.  Perhaps even before that as I drove up to Mackinac City and prepared to board the Arnold Ferry, which takes you across Lake Huron and the Straits of Mackinac, to Mackinac Island, which has an old  beach-like environment, touristy but quaint.  As you leave Mackinac City - and get close to Mackinac Island, there is an overwhelming quaint New England setting.  See pictures below.

Once you arrive, you’ll take a horse-drawn carriage taxi to your hotel.  The Grand Hotel has an escort arrangement.  You’ll notice their taxis look pretty cool. They have a wine-colored coach, horse drawn carriage, complete with chauffeur-uniform and all.  You can see the fort as you’re arriving by ferry, or as you walk towards Mission Point Resort (or to the right off the ferry).

When Susan Rosenberg and I were there checking out the facilities for our Search N Spa right before the 4th of July week festivities, we noted these infamous bicyclists - what are those things called?

You can see many historical churches, including this one below:

Do I need to say anything else regarding Mackinac Island?  The pictures speak for themselves.

On the Grand, what can I say about the Grand?

It’s a spectacular, world-famous, historical, grandiose, high-class, out of this world fine dining, political, cultural, and executive level experience all wrapped up into one.

Here’s Susan, our paid search manager, enjoying the fine dining of dessert - this is the luncheon buffet.

This was a nice surprise - a June night - in Mackinac Island - around 10 p.m., or closer to 11, - beautiful moon setting - we were walking back to Mission Point Resort and caught the late night dusk.

Mackinac’s The Grand Hotel is a beautiful place and quite the hotel.  The setting makes for a wonderful stay for a business seminar.  Bring your husband, your wife, your girlfriend or boyfriend - and enjoy all that Mackinac Island has to offer.  Golf on the Jewel.  Rent bikes.  Walk the island.  There are no cars.

There is a dress code at The Grand Hotel.  It’s suits and ties for men, and dresses or skirts or pantsuits for women.  You see more dresses than pant-suits.  This is in effect after 5 p.m. and it is strictly adhered to.
