When hearing the word fruit cake, the one thing that comes to mind is a rich Christmas cake with delectable candied fruit.

Have you ever wondered how many people were searching for fruitcake on the Web? Over 137,000 searches for fruitcake occur annually on the Web, and this number goes up as it gets closer to the holiday season. More people are searching for “fruitcake” as opposed to “fruit cake”. Collin Street Bakery makes delicious and fresh fruitcakes in their Corsicana bakery.

It is also interesting to hear about what some people do with their fruitcake and it does not include eating it. Have you ever heard of the Annual Great Fruitcake Toss? This event takes place in Manitou Springs, Colorado in early January. The idea is to see who can hurl their fruitcake the farthest? The games include multiple events such as The Fruitcake Launch, The Fruitcake Toss, and The Official Fruitcake Hurl. It may be fun to see how far you can toss a fruitcake, but I prefer eating one.

Fruitcakes can be stored in your refrigerator for up to two months and frozen after that. You can also doctor your fruit cake with a good cognac or other spirit. If you are looking for an alternative this Christmas then try a pecan cake or a white chocolate macadamia nut cheesecake. Collin Street Bakery has set up a blog on their website and plan to include tidbits on products, events, holiday traditions, and more.
